Informational Items Vaughn Gehle reported on his investigation into how other MnSCU schools indicate in their catalogs science courses intended for majors and science courses intended for non-majors. Corey Butler reported that a communication from a faculty member was received regarding the appropriateness of the logic courses in fulfilling the MTC requirement. Will Thomas moved to table SOCI 270: Gender Issues until all LACOB members had an opportunity to review it; delivery of proposals to members offices has been spotty over the past week. Tom Williford seconded. Motion carried. Course Descriptions Linda Nelson suggested that MTC designations are included in course descriptions. Adding MTC designations would be a curriculum change of less than major significance, and it would ease advising of students and determining what course meets what requirement. LACOB agreed to revisit this issue once MnSCU rules presently under discussion are resolved. First Year Seminar After a brief discussion, the LACOB clarified that it will be considering FYS syllabi on their ability to express how the requirements of the First Year Seminar are met. Plagiarism ought to be addressed in a more unified manner in this course. We will return to this, and definitely discuss when all FYS teaching faculty come together. Tom Williford moved to approve Maria Brandts proposal for a FYS section. Corey Butler seconded. Motion carried. Vaughn Gehle moved to approve Corey Butlers proposal for a FYS section. Will Thomas seconded. Motion carried. Vaughn Gehle moved that we ask for further details before approving Stewart Days proposal for a FYS section. Lyn Brodersen seconded. Motion carried. Corey Butler seconded. Motion carried. Tom Williford moved that we ask for further details before approving Brett Gauls proposal for a FYS section. Vaughn Gehle seconded. Motion carried. Lyn Brodersen seconded. Motion carried. Education Credit Caps Corey Butler will speak with Rhonda Bonstetter to see how we can address the pre-requisites that seem to be such a sticking point with the MTC. Tom Williford moved that the LACOB support Education in its endeavor to satisfy requirements of the BOT, MTC, and LAC. Lyn Brodersen seconded. Motion carried. Critical Thinking Assessment Lyn Brodersen will check on the availability of the upcoming CAT training in Boulder, Colorado. We hope to be able to compare the results of the CAT to the CLA; findings will provide opportunities for scholarly articles and appeal to the HLC.
